Crazy Eights
8's are wild in this classic card-shedding game for 2-8 players! Contrary to most games, in Crazy Eights, you want to have the lowest score possible.
How to Play Crazy Eights
Objective
- In Crazy Eights, the object is to be the first player to get rid of all their cards.
- Cards with a matching suit or matching rank as the top card of the discard pile can be played into the discard pile.
Set-up
- For 2-5 players, Crazy Eights uses a standard 52 card deck. For 6+ players, a second deck is needed. Switch to edit mode and edit the card deck to add 2 copies of each card.
- Deal each player five cards. The top card of the remaining deck is discarded face-up, to start the discard pile.
Playing the Game
- Each round begins with the player left of the dealer and subsequent turns proceed clockwise.
- On a player's turn, they must play a card of the same suit or rank as the top card of the discard pile. When they play their card, they play onto the discard pile (EXAMPLE: Player 2 is left of the dealer so they start by playing a 6 Hearts on top of the 3 Hearts that is on top of the discard pile).
- If they are unable to play a card, they must draw a card from the deck until either they are able to play a card or until they have drawn three cards and still cannot play. If a player cannot play a card even after drawing three cards, they must pass (EXAMPLE: Player 3 does not have a 6 or a Hearts card in hand so they draw off the top of the deck. They draw a 9 Clubs. They draw again, a 6 Spades. Player 3 plays the 6 Spades on top of the 6 Hearts and play passes clockwise).
- 8's are wild and be played on top of any card. However, when an 8 is played, the player who played the 8 will state a suit and the next player must play a card in the stated suit (Player 4 plays an 8 Diamonds and declares the new suit to be Clubs. Player 1 now must play a card belong to the Clubs suit).
Scoring
- When a player plays the last card in their hand, the round ends and the other players get points for the remaining cards in their hands.
- Aces are worth 1, 2-10 are worth face value (except 8's), K/Q/J are worth 10 and 8's are worth 50.
- Points are bad! In Crazy Eights, you want to have the lowest score possible.
Winning
When a player's score reaches 100+ points at the end of a round, the player with the lowest score wins!
